A Little History

The words on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty say: “Give me your tired, your poor (Your Pizza Starved) your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.”

In 2001, I started Mammalucco’s because I wanted a home for “PIZZA STARVED” East-Coast transplants who moved out west to California. After years of searching and being disappointed in establishments that claimed to be New York Italian, I put my money where my mouth was and opened Mammalucco’s.

I wanted to create a “haven” where I could get a “REAL SLICE” of New York pizza; a joint to remind me of my mom Catherina’s macaroni; and a place where its patrons knew the owner.

So, what is Mammalucco’s? It’s more than a place… It’s a “FEELING.” Mammalucco’s is also an “ATTITUDE.” It might be the only place in California where you might see a real live “GOOMBA.” It’s where you gather to break bread, celebrate and “FORGET ABOUT IT” … I mean forget about your problems.

If you want great pizza in the U.S., you should visit the Pizza Belt – which runs from Baltimore to Boston, with the epicenter of Neapolitan Pizza being the Big Apple – New York City, my roots as a child. Mammalucco’s was established to make a statement that New York style gourmet pizza does exist on the west coast, and that we should be mentioned in the same sentence as those legendary places in the east.

Growing up, I knew two things – I was Italian and we were die-hard Yankee fans. At Mammalucco’s we put our heart and soul into every pie, and it’s a labor of love for us. I’ve traveled more miles and tasted more pizzas, all in the quest of making you the best possible pizza. Our “REGULARS” are our “REGULARS” because we refuse to skimp on quality. Our “REGULARS” know we’ll never let them down because Mammalucco’s doesn't change with the times.

Each year restaurants come and go. Many eateries change their concepts as they go along, not Mammalucco’s. We know who we are and what we represent. When you visit Mammalucco’s you know what you’re getting – a New York Italian “neighborhood dining experience.”

There are only a handful of great pizzerias and Italian establishments in the United States, and Mammalucco’s measures up. I can proudly say to you – our valued patron – that my grandfather, Giuseppe Cardone, born in Naples, Italy, would be proud of our establishment.

As long as I’m the owner of Mammalucco’s, you’ve got my personal commitment to use only the finest quality ingredients to manufacture our products. My dear friends, we are worthy of our reputation. You’ve got my personal guarantee.

Mammalucco’s … a different time … a different feeling…
